Assistant Special Services Director

JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Student Services Director provides direct support to the Student Services Director, District leadership and Superintendent. This position is responsible for building a positive climate and culture that accepts and welcomes ALL students, staff and community members. Using leadership skills they will provide evaluation support of special education staff, provide assistance and support on the IEP/504 process and ensure the day-to-day operations of the Student Services Department are met. Day to day operations include supporting district equity work, student discipline, restorative justice practices, mental health teams and other items requested by leadership. Decision making should be collaborative and employ an equity lens. The Assistant Student Services Director must be familiar with state and federal law, District policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements and be able to use independent judgment and decision-making in matters not having established rules, regulations or policies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A valid TSPC Special Education Licensure.
• A valid TSPC Oregon Administrative License.
• Master’s degree with preferred emphasis in education.
• Previous, successful experience in K-12 Public Education.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• The ability to effectively work, support and communicate with students, parents and school personnel from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based application systems.
• Ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the district.
• Ability and experience working and leading Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
• Annually pass the District’s required online training, CPR/First Aid, and other training provided by the District.
• Maintain current licenses and certifications required for the position.
• Follow and maintain knowledge of all applicable District policies and procedures; follow and maintain knowledge of all current state and federal laws or administrative rules pertaining to public education.
• Build relationships.
• Lead and promote educational equity based on the principle that each student receives what is required for them to achieve success with regard to allocation of resources, opportunity, treatment and access.
• Lead teacher participation in discussions and deliberations regarding instruction, staff development, budget and other programs.
• Lead constructive and professionally sound instructional research by teachers in the use of new methods, materials and content.
• Provide guidance and support.
• Maintain open and effective lines of communication with students, parents, staff and community members.
• Provide for the development of new staff as well as evaluation of all staff.
• Demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills.
• Participates in District provided professional development.
• May be asked to serve on District committees.
• Attends work regularly and is punctual.
• Work collaboratively with the student services central office team.
• Provide district level support on equity work, student discipline and restorative justice practices.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned special education staff’s work and professional growth and assist with overseeing and evaluating all special education staff.
• Coordinate the activities of all special education personnel, both licensed and classified.
• Work directly with principals on developing and improving special education services.
• Work cooperatively with principals in selecting teaching personnel in their buildings.
• Recommend practices and procedures for special education services that are consistent and in compliance with state and federal mandates.
• Keep current and interpret all laws, regulations, and statutes relating to public education, particularly special education.
• Assist in developing the budget and financial data for District special education budget components.
• Serves as the District Representative for IEP meetings when resources are considered to efficiently manage fiscal resources while meeting special education regulations.
• Implement the District’s vision of exceptional service in support of student achievement and increased participation in activities and athletic programs and assist in resolving patron complaints as they arise.
• Models the characteristics of effective leadership, including positive energy, unfailing integrity, strong communication, etc.
• Represent the District within forums to maintain ongoing community support for the District’s shared vision and educational goals and/or assist with issues related to the school environment.
• Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested.
• Bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish preferred.
Salary range: $112,783-$133,305
